NANKING’S DEFENCES. PREPARATION.TO RESIST. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright ) (Received this day at 9.40 a.m.) SHANGHAI, March 26. The Nanking’s seeming indifference towards'the combined, revolt of Yenhsishin and Fengyalisiang, is merely superficial. Extensive preparations to resist the Northern offensive are -reported to be now complete. Foreign observers consider that general hostilities will break out within three weeks. Nanking is confident of victory, relying on Chiangkaishek’s defences to defeat the Government movement.
According to latest information received, -Fsinpu railway on Hankow' fronts, national forces have built an elaborate system of defences, extending from Hsuehow along the entire strategic front of Tsinpu line, construction work having, been completed three months previously following a mutiny at Slihyusan and Pukow in December. The defences are being arranged under the direction of German military advisers.
