LATE LOCALS.

A motor collision which occurred about seven o’clock last Christmas Eve, on the Omoto Road, Greymouth, at a corner just beyond the Biorough pumping station, had its sequel at the Magistrate’s Court, Greymouth, yesterday when Cyril Sayce Hickman, farmer, of Ngahere (Mr W.P. McCarthy), proceeded against Robert Joseph Oliver Chamberlain, mill hand, of Ruru (Mr J. Murdoch) claiming £l7 10s, special damages for car repairs and £l2 10s general damages Ifor depreciation, a total of £3O, alleging that Chamberlain was guilty of negligent and unskilful driving. Plaintiff was coming to Greymouth, and defendant was proceeding to Ruru. After hearing lengthy evidence, in giving his decision the Magistratee, Mr Meldrum stated that the evidence, as was frequently the case in such actions, was very much in conflict. After reviewing the evidence, he stated that he could not hold it had been proved the defendant was to blame,- and that there was no negligence on the part of plaintiff. The latter would therefore be non-suited, each party to pay their own costs. There was a certain amount of blame on both sides.
