THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
LORD BALFOUR Lord Balfour was a man of rare intellectual accomplishments, and there \va„s a fine distinctive, half-literary note in his public utterances. Probably be loved literature better than politics. Perhaps lie loved golf Better tiian literature. He was keenly interested in scientific and philanthropic progress, and his eloquent advocacy has furthered many a worthy cause. We should not say that he was a very great man in the ultimate sense of the term; but lie was a man of very high mark and worth—a good and beneficient man withal—and his memory will retain an abiding fragrance. —Otago Times.
