REGIONAL AREA DEFINED

INVERCARGILL, March 20
A public inquiry, the first of 21 to be conducted throughout New Zealand was held to-day for the purpose of taking evidence concerning- the definition of the regional area comprising the City of Invercargill, and its surrounding districts. The committee of inquiry consisted of Air S. 81-ckley, representative of the Counties’ Associal im on the Town Planning Hoard (chairman), Air H. S. AValsh. surveyor-general, and Mr J. AY. Mawson. director of town planning. The chairman explained that the committee had to take evidence of dif-, ,Cerent; cenfires in New Zealand to determine what should lie recommended as the basis of regions in which ther-c was community of interests. Suitable boundaries were defined, and at the conclusion of the inquiry, delegates from various local bodies passed a resolution commending the furtherance of regional planning.

AVANGANUI, -March 23
AYitli terrible burns about the head and the upper part of his body, Frederick Arthur Troughton, aged 25, married, was admitted to the Wanganui Hospital about nine o’clock on Saturday morning and died early this morning. Deceased who was the only son of Air and Airs F. Troughton, Wellington-, was a mechanic in the garage of C. C. Brownie and Coy, AVanganui, and and was occupied in draining petrol from the tank of a ear, prior to executing repair work, when lie became enveloped in flames as the result of the petrol igniting, he being in a pit underneath the ear. The deceased managed to scramble out with difficulty, the upper part of his body being a mass of flames, which were extinguished by his fellow workers, hut not before the unfortunate man had suffered terrible injuries. Deceased leaves a widow and one child.
