parkerson delayed again

LONDON, March 22

The New Zealander, Parkerson, went to the Lympne Aerodrome at 4.20 o’clock this morning, hoping to start, hut it was raining heavily, so he returned to bed. He did not wake till 8.30 a. .m. when the weather was at its best, with favourable north-west winds, but it was then too late to start.

Parkerson hopes to leave on Sunoav.

INDIAN BOY AVIATOR

RUGBY, March 21

Chala, a young .Indian, arrived at the Oroydon Aerodrome at. noon today, after having flown from Karachi, in India, a distance of 5000 miles, in 18 days. Chawla, who is only 17 years of age, learned to fly while he . was in England. He does pot qualify for the prize of £SOO offered by the Agn Khan, which is for the first solo flight by an Indian between India and England, as he was accompanied by a mechanic, Adsey.

A message from Delhi, however, states that the Indian Government is taking steps to award Chawla a special prize of £SOO.

VICEROY’S CONGRATULATIONS

DELHI, March 22.

The Government of India has granted 7500 rupees to Chawla, as being the first , Indian airman to accomplish a flight from Karachi to England. The Governor-General personally cabled his congratulations.

MOTH PLANE CRASHES.

SYDNEY, March 23

A Moth plane piloted by W. J. Powell crashed in a street at Maroubra, wrecking telephone and electric wires 'and narrowly missing a motor car. The engine had stalled and the machine had insufficient wav on to reach a neighbouring space, where a safe landing might have been effected. The pilot, therefore, had to make the best of the street spaqe offering. The plane was wrecked ;but Powell was., not seriously hurt. A linesman later clearing the wires touched a' live one and was taken to the hospital badly burned.
