PREPARING FOR ARCTIC

Sir Hubert Wilkins arrived to-day. He stated he would immediately begin conlerences with engineers and technicians relative to the proposed Arctic submarine expedition from Spitsbergen to Alaska. The expense of the undertaking, as .well as the difficulties of preparation were giving him most concern, hut he believed the necessary arrangements would be made.
Speaking of his Antarctic, work just ended, be said : “My explorations by uir have shown that the coastline of the Antarctic. Continent is 011 an average. eight degrees further south than lias hitherto been believed. We have chipped off 8 degrees from the edge of the continent. He explained the difficulties they had in communicating with Byrd. Although the latter’s radio station was the nearest to them communication with it could only be arranged through San Francisco. We were every anxious to know all about Byrd’s attempt to fly to the South Pole but it was not until three days after the flight had been made that we got news of it.”
The explorer said he felt fit. and he appeared in excellent physical condition.
