Senator Boydcll was fined ten pounds for assaulting Marwick, member for Ulovo. Marwick criticised Bovdell when Minister of Labour, in connection with the sugar settlement scheme in Natal. Bovdell maintained that Marwick impugned his personal honour during the elections. The two met at a meeting at Durban, at which Bovdell called Marwick a coward. Marwick then hit Boydell. They next met at the Empire Parliamentary Association meeting, at the conclusion of which Boydell demanded an apology and Marwick refused, whereupon Boydell Lit him thrice breaking three teeth, and rendering Marwick unconscious.
