A plea of guilty was entered In Williams Bale, a seaman,' aged forty, "'lien he was charged before Mr E. Pare S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day with attempting to commit suicide a Petoliei on Bth March. SubInspector Lauder said that accused was found with everything ready to attempt to commit suicide by hanging. He. was very violent when taken mJ;o custody, and was in a very depressed state. He had 'been drinking, and it was understood that. Ire was 'also subject to some financial worry. The accused had not been in a fit state to appear . before the Court before, buL during the time lie had been on remand, -he-, had ln-ade a good recovery. He had been before the Court on a similar charge a little over a year ago, when he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months, and during that time ho had behaved himself very well.

“Apparently excessive drinking put him in the,state lie was in when Inattempted to commit suicide,” concluded the Bnb-l ii-nocior.
