MILLION AND A HALF MARK. At the present rate of increase, the population of the Dominion can be expected to pass th(‘ 1.500,000 mark during next June, and another important milestone in the development of New Zealand will then be reached. On December 31, last, the population of the IDominipn, including Maoris, was 1,4.85,594 persons. During the preceding six months the population was increased by 15,142 persons, and if the same rate of ihcrease has been maintained this year, the 1,509,900 mark should be passed in June next. The most important stages in tbs population of New Zealand have been as follows:—1871. 250,099; 1882, 500.090 ; 1990, 750,000; 1911, 1,000,000; 1922, 1,250,000. At the last census, taken in April, 1926, the population of the Dominion was 1,344,469.
