GREYMOUTH SENTENCES

GREYMOUTH, March 17
John Petley, 43, pleaded guilty to obtaining £lO and £5 by valueless cheques at Westport and was sentenced to three months on each charge to be concurrent. Accused had fourteen previous convictions for theft, forgery and false pretences, Cyril Kenneth Brown, aged 20, was ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months, if called, for the theft of goods valued at £3 5s 6d at Ahaura.
CROSSING SMASH. GISBORNE, March 17
A. crossing smash occurred this morning at King’s road when a lorry driven by Kenneth Stephens was struck by a train and completely smashed. The driver escaped with head injuries, which proved not serious, though the cab of the lorry was reduced to splinters. The engine of the train was damaged by the impact but was able to continue its journey.
THROAT CUT
AUCKLAND, March 17
Missing from her home at Takapuna for a short period, and returning home on Friday, Mrs Martha Bradley, aged 4b, was found in her bedroom on Sunday with a wound in her throat, and she died half an hour after she was ad mitted to the hospital.
BOY KILLED AUCKLAND, March 17
Ronald Frederick Mcßae, aged 9, son of John Mcßae, was riding a horse bareback up a hill on his father’s farm at C'levedon, when the horse fell and the boy sustained injuries from which he died at Auckland hospital.
FOUND DEAD. , AUCKLAND, March 17
Louis Ramsbottom, employed carting bv the Public Works 'Department, was found dead between Warkworth and Wellsford, under the cab of bis vehicle, and apparently his neck was Woken. He was aged between 45 and 50. He leaves a wife and four cliild-
CAR COLLISION INJURIES. AUCKLAND, March 17
As the result of a collision of a motor car with a horse and cart, near Manurewa. Mrs Wynne Murray. 33, was removed to the hospital with concussion of the brain. A. Adams, employed as a barman and A. J. Frost, sustained minor injuries. LEG BROKEN.

hospital. MOTOR DRIVER FINED. WELLINGTON, March 17
Walter Hugh Anderson, aged 28. a salesman, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mannsell with being intoxicated while in charge of a car and to violently resisting a constable who attempted to arrest him early on Sunday morning. Anderson was fined £2O on the first charge and CIO oil the second.
