SHARK LEAPS INTO LAUNCH
ANGLER HAS EXCITING TIME. AUCKLAND, March 14. The launch Dione returned to Whangaroa early last evening, her cockpit presenting a scene of wreckage where a Malco shark had jumped on board. Mr A. Bowver, who was in the chair had a strike, and before the engine could be started the fish broached alongside three times, each time clearing the water by fifteen feet. The third time it landed right in the chair on its nose. The chair was broken to matchwood, several pieces showing broken teeth embedded in the wood. The panelling was badly damaged and the heavy gunmetal control lever was broken. Mr Bowyer managed, after a desperate struggle to kill the fish with a whale spade. The fish weighed 2281 b Mr Bowyer also landed another Mako weighing 2901b5. The catching of the first fish provided the most exciting experience he has had in 30 odd year, of deep sea work. Other catches yesterday were: Mr B. W. R. Roe (launch Ethel), Mako ,1111 b; Mr R. Watson (Alma G.) Mako 3381 b and 1391 b; Mr Arnott (Lorna Doone), Mako 2451 b, swordfish 2191 b,
