CAUSE OF FIRE.
REPORT MISLEADING
WELLINGTON, March 15
A recent telegram from Palmerston North stating that a fire there, which destroyed a Fold garage and also caused the explosion of an acetone welding gas container, was published in some papers as if the explosion of the container was the cause of the fire. This has caused concern to the Acetone Illuminating and Welding Coy. of Napier, which states the cylinder did not cause the fire, but was destroyed by fire, which apparently originated from some other cause than gas containers. Further it was not an “acetone” cylinder but an oxygen cylinder, which accordingly could not explode.
