Sentenced to five years’ hard labour for killing a nagging wife, Stephen Meszaros begged to be sentenced to death, as lie wanted to join his better half in the next world, so that he could finally square accounts., because it was not enough to have killed her once.
CHILI’S STATUS.

, RUGBY, March 14. '"The King has approved of a recommendation by the Foreign Secretary that bis Majesty’s representative in Chili shall in future lie Ambassador instead of Minister as hitherto and that the Ambassador from the Republic of Chili will he received at his Majesty’s court.
Britsih and Chilian Governments are satisfied these elevations of .status of two representatives will be to the mutual advantage of both countries. The necessary steps will shortly be taken to give effect to His Majesty’s pleasure in tlie case of the British representative. and it is anticipated similar steps will be taken by the Chilian Government regarding the representative of Republic in London.

The Home Secretary has appointed Edward Hale Tindal Atkinson, Director of Public Prosecutions in place o'f Sir Archibald Bodkin who retires on pension.
