CIRCUS ACCIDENT
PLUCKY WOMAN HURT

BERLIN, March 13,
A young lion in a circus at Cassel was confined in a cage adjoining that of a Siberian bear. The lion tore down a thin petition, and leapt at tne bear. A furious battle then ensued.
The owner’s wife Frau Hassell,' who was alone at the circus, courageously rushed into the cage, armed with a \vire whip, and she separated the combatants, hut the lion then turned on her, and terribly mauled her.
The attendants, alarmed by the woman’s shrieks and the lion’s roars, arrived on the scene, and, using revolvers and rods, they chased the lion into a corner.
The lion was so badly injured that it had to be destroyed.
The hear died from its injuries,
Frau Hassell is now in hospital in a dying condition.
