STEAMER “TESS”
ANOTHER DISPUTE
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, March 14 The refusal of the oilicers to reengage a certain member of the mew lias resulted in the steamer Tees being held up at Wellington since 3 o’clock on Monday afternoon last when she was ready to sail for the Chatham Islands.
e the present time there appears to bo little hope of an early settlement, as the crew refuses to sail unless the
man in question is re-engaged. The trouble, which is entirely in the nature of a quarrel between the officers \ and the men, is causing considerable inconvenience to the owners and shippers, as the Tees is the only vessel . maintaining a service between New Zealand and the Chatham Islands.
The Seamen’s Union is doing its best to smooth matters over, but so far it has not met with any success. The Wellington Merchant Service Guild is also interested in the matter, but it has no statement to make at present.
