NEW FERRY STEAMER

WELLINGTON, March 13.
Tenders are to he called by the Union Steam Ship Company for the building of a new steamer for their Wejllingtou-Lyttelton service. The plans show that the new ship will be larger than the “Waliine.” This latest addition to the Union Company’s fast passenger vessels will have a sea speed loaded, of 20i knots. Provision will (>e made for 1050 passengers in both classes. The plans suggest that the appointment, furnishing, and interior decoration of the new ferry steamer will he luxurious in character and in Keeping in every respect with modern ideas of passenger liner accommodation.
Several important changes in the staff of tho Union Steam Ship Company will presently l>e given effect to, consequent on the retirement of Mr W. A. Kennedy, Manager in Wellington. Mr W. H. P rice, Manager at Christchurch, will succeed Mr Kennedy. Mr J. M .Greenland, now manager at Timaru, will succeed Mr Price at Christchurch. Mr J. H. Gilbert, Chief Clerk at the Dunedin office, will be Manager at Timaru, and Mr G. F. Booth, from the Wellington office, will, be Chief Clerk at Dunedin.
