BY BRISBANE SOLICITOR

(Australian Press Association)

BRISBANE, March 13

Robert McCowa'n, !the well-known solicitor who was convicted on several charges of theft of clients’ funds, was sentenced to fourteen years’ imprisonment.

Mr Justice Macrossan described McGowan as “ an utterly unprincipled, unscrupulous man.” His conduct, said His Honour, had -struck a serious blow at the v. honour of the legal profession, but the public had no grounds for panic. The Judge made the suggestion for strengthening the safeguards under a Trust Accounts Act.

It was stated that McGowan’s liabilities amounted to £34,000.
