AUSTRALIANS V. SOUTH ISLAND

DUNEDIN, March 11

A lawn tennis match was commenced to-day between the Australians and the Uou.tli island. The singles were evenly divided, hut Australia won both of the doubles, giving them a lead of four rubbers to two on the day’s play. A high wind blew across tbe courts, hut nevertheless the display was of a high standard all round. The scores, with the Australian names first, are: —

Singles: Kalins jbeat Rhodes-Wil-liams 6—3, 6—4 ; Sproule lost to Angas 6—3, I—6, 6—B; Teague beat Glanville 6—2, 6—2; Donohae lost to McDougall 4—'6, 4—6. Doubles: Kalins and Teague beat Angas and Rhodes-AVilliams 6—-0, 6—4; Sproule and Donohoe beat Glanville and McDougall 6 —2, 6—2. The match will be continued to-morrow.
