About 1.30 o’clock on Saturday, mornpig a fire broke out in the kitchen oi a four-roomed house owned and occupied by Mr G. Birady and situated in Hilton Street, Blackball. The fire had a good hold when discovered by the occupants, who had to make a hasty exit. The dwelling was completely demolished and nothing was saved. The flames quickly enveloped the adjoining draper’s shop owned by Airs H. Carter, and until recently occupied by Alillers. It also was destroyed. A bucket brigade was formed, and efforts were concentrated. upon saving the dwelling occupied bv Mrs AV. Mason. The absence • of wind greatly helped those engaged in preventing the .further spread of the outbreak to this building, which was slightly scorched, and had some window’s cracked. The insurance on Brady’s property wa« £395 on the house and £IOO on the furniture, in the Royal Insurance Office.
