CRICKET.

WELLINGTON, March 11

The final day’s play in the Plunket Shield cricket match, Wellington v. Auckland, opened in fine weather with a fresh southerly wind. Light rain overnight had had little effect on the wicket which was still in excellent order.. Rollings (32) and Foley (13) continued the innings to the bowling of Allcott, with the wind, and Wenslev.

Progress was slow, though several byes helped to improve the total. Foley survived an appeal lor l.b.w. in Wensley’s second over. Ninety appeared after a quarter of an hour s play. At 11.30 Allcott clean bowled Ilollings who had played a sound defensive innings. Lowry was next. After playing a defensive innings for 55 minutes Foley lifted Wenslev to Gillespie at cover point 98—4—21. McLeod was next and 100 went up / after the innings had been in progress for 145 minutes. At noon the scope.was 1.10 for 4.

Lowry and McLeod commenced to open out ai\d with the score at 12) Anthony replaced Allcott. TJie scoring rate improved, both batsmen playing confidently. At 144 Allcott went on again vice Wenslev (1 for 31) Mntlieson was bowling with the wind The score at 12.30 was 144 tor 4. Lowry (not out) 24, McLeod (not out) 16, extras 31. Lowry continued to score freely placing Mntlieson nicely to leg, but McLeod was slower, taking eighty minutes to reach 20. At luncheon the score was 184 for 4, Lowry (not out) 49, McLeod (not out) 26, extras 36.
