MURDER CHARGE

FOLLOWS INQUEST ON HIS WIFE

Arthur Munn, aged 4b years, a metal worker, was arrested this afternoon, and was charged with the murder of his wife, Inly May Munn, .at .Northcote. lie was remanded for eight days. y His arrest has followed a post mor.ieii. ,ad a lengthy inquest.

A sensation was caused at Northcote yesterday afternoon when Arthur Thomas Munn, a former member of the Northcote Borough Council was arrested on this charge of murdering his wile, Inly May Munn. Mrs Munn died on February lltli, at her home, in Richmond Avenue, •Northcote, she .having first become ill ten days previously. In that period she was attended by a Doctor tlireo or four times and lie was present at her death.

The deceased was 0 a war widow, having been formerly Mrs Wentlierby. Munn bad previously been married and be had three children. There were two children of tin? second marriage, aged eight and five years. The death of Airs Munn came as a great shock to her neighbours. 1 lie Northcote Borough Council passed a resolution of sympathy with Munn in his bereavement.

The Munos occupied a six-roomed bungalow in Richmond Avenue, Northcote, and their married life was apparently happy. At a special sitting of the Police Court, Munn was charged with the murder of his wife on February 11. He was not represented ’by Counsel. The charge was read and the ease was adjourned to March 17. Munn is a wickenyorker by occupation. He has always taken a prominent part in local affairs in his district.
