Trustees of tlie United Empire Party announce that in- -view of the changed situation, all of the donations to the Party are being returnee; accompanied with personal thanks from Lord Be-averbrook. The. fund totalled £94,000.

L-rd Rptliermere announces tlie party has achieved only one. of its objectives with the official, house r vat ive Party adoption of Empire Free Trade. ,There- remain, he says three other aims even of greater importance—namely a high tariff against imported manufactured goods ruthless economy and no more surrenders to India. Towards these objectives, he says, and towards a severance of British diplomatic relations with Russia, the party will continue to press.

Lord Beaverbrook, commenting on Lord Rothermere’s statement, points .out that it- involves a complete departure from the Party’s original aim, Empire free trade, which was the. sole issue mentioned in the original manifesto. He said: “I was aware that Lord R'thormere wished to enlarge the programme to embrace other political issues. 1 did not agree therewith.”
