GOVERN WENT ’ S ATT I 'l 1 UDE

DEFINED

[United Press Association. —By Electlic Telegraph.—Copyright.]

LONDON, March 4

At the request of imperial International Communications Company, Limited, the Government has consented to the publication of. two letters regarding the rival wireless telephone systems. In the first the Company suggested to the Cabinet's Committee that they should agree to test both svstems, under independent supervision, in order to decide which gives the most reliable 'communication, the lowest charges, and the longest houis of using for the purpose of wireless telephony between Britain and South Africa. The Company said that otherwise there was a danger of the Empire, both politically commercially, being saddled with inferior systems.

'Lord Thompson’s secretary implied that such a test with South Africa would be an impracticable one, because the Rugby Hadio Station was not' yet equipped with thp plant for a South African Service. He pointed out that the Rugby cxpci i ments were of an elementary nature for the purpose of exploring suitable wave lengths. The Cabinet’s Committee, ho added, Inis' no doubt that its system would provide an efficient service with the Dominions in view of the successful working of the Anglo-American short wave service from Rugby. There was no likelihood of further tests to augment data that already was available. Finally, he added,’ the working tests would not touch the crucial financial aspects ol the matter.
