CHOCOLATE MERGER

N.Z. COY WITH CADBURY’S DUNEDIN, March 2. Following the arrival of Mr Barrow Cadbury, who is chairman of Cadbury Bros., Ltd., and of the. Joint Board of Cadburys and Frys, it is announced that the firm of Cadbury Bros., Ltd., of Bournville, has produced as from March 31 net, a controlling interest in the old established firm of R. Hudson and Co., Ltd., Dunedin, manufacturers of chocolate, confectionery, biscuits, and flour. This business was founded by the late Richard Hudson in 1868. The merger is of considerable importance to the industry in the Dominion, and, with the strength of these firms, with world-wide reputations behind them the new organisation of Cadbury-Fry-Hudson, Limited New Zealand, will possess a choclate and confectionery factory equal to anything in the world. Mr George Sara, who lias been for many years in control of Cadbury’s and Fry’s in New Zealand, and Mr B. C. Smith, Managing Director of the Cadbury and Fry interests in Australia, .will join the Board to represent Cadbury Brothers Limited and J. S. Fry and Sons, Limited. The precent principles of R. Hudson and Company, Limited will remain actively in the business, and will be represented on the Board by Messrs and Robert Hudson. Mr Richard Hudson will continue as Chair man of Directors.
