VALEDICTORY

Toker’-’s Hall Arahura last Friday was the sqene of a most enjoyable social function, when a large number of residents' from. the surrounding district and from town gathered at the invitation of Airs Toker to bid farewell to Miss M. McConnell on the eve of her departure for Richmond. During the course of the evening, most of which was spent in dancing, songs were rendered by'Miss A. Toker, Miss M. McConnell and Miss M. Tainui. whilst the music for the dances was .supplied by Air E. Cooke, with extras by Missess C. Cooke, P. Olsen and M. ’Toker. After a dainty supper had been served, the guest of the evening Was presented by Mr J. Stafford (President.of Arahura Tennis Club and Secretary of Arahura Football Club) witha’suitcase on behalf of tlie Arahura Tennis Club, tit which ' Miss McConnell li ad' been joint secretary since its ’inception together' With a Xylonite manicure set from the Arahura Football Club,' of which she had been an ardent supporter, and leather hat box from Mrs Toker and family. In a inost feeling address ho voiced the general regret which was felt at the loss of one who had proved her sterling worth to the community amongst whom she had resided during the past three years and who had thereby endeared herself to all. These expressions of goodwill were endorsed by Mill. Alandl (Capt. of Tennis Club), Mr 7. Tainui and Miss A. Toker (Secretary of Tennis Club.) In rising to reply Miss McConnell was greeted with sustained acclamation. In responding, she expressed her appreciation of the eulogies" which she bad jus.t heard and fissured those present that she keeiily felt her impending separation from those many Friends whom it had been her good' fortune to make during her stay and whose manifold kindness she would never forget; and stressed -particularly the unremitting kindness and affection lavished upon her by Mrs Toker with whom she bad resided' throughout tlie term of her services oil tlie Coast. Dancing was again indulged in until the early hours of the morning, when happy party concluded with the singof Auld Lang Syne and Good Save the King.
