TREASURY STAFF

MR G. C. RODDA’S PROMOTION. WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. The Public Service Commissioner announced to-day that he had appointed Air G. C. Rodda, at present Assistant Accountant at the Treasury, to the position of Assistant Secretary to the Treasury, etc., previously held by ATr A. D. Park, who recently became 1 Secretary to. the ’Treasury on the retirement of Air 10 E. Hayes. Air Rodda' 1 was’ horn at Stafford, Westland, in 1878, his parents having arrived from England j'in the early colonial, days, and his father being, a' Velhkhowii man in 'Westland' and a J.P. for many' years. Air’ Rodda ret Reived his secondary education .at the Hokitika High' School, at ' which lie was the .holder of a scholarship,, and; Le : matriculated in' 1894'. As a result >f passing the Junior Oml Service" examination,' he joined tho Governnent Life Insurance Department as i cadet in that year and served both at Wellington and at Napier. In 1962 he was transferred to the Treasury. On tiie outbreak of war in 1914 he .as attached to the Defence Department as officer in charge of war expenses the work of which involved the for the whole of the war xpenditure for which New Zealand assumed liability, also the payment of allotments, wives’, children’s and other allowances to dependents and relatives of members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. At one stage of this wprk. the staff employed under him .reached a total of oQO. In June, 1919, lie received the M, B. E. decoration for these services, and returned to the Treasury in the following year. In 1921 he passed tlie professional accountants’ examination and was admitted as a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants in 1922. In 1926 ho was promoted t.o the position of Chief Inspector of the Treasury, and in "the following.year to the position of Assistant-Account-ant. Air Rodda lias also occupied the position of secretary to the Local Government' Loans Board since its inception.
