.. gnu-ions message has been received from Her Majesty tlie Queen in connection with the effort that is being made in New Zealand to endow a Chair of Midwife) y and Gymaccology. Tier -Majesty’s message, which was received yesterday by the Administrator of the Government (Hon. Sir -...ehcnl Myers) and forwarded to the Crime Minister, the Minister of Health, and the president of the New Zealand Obstetrical Society, is a.s follows :
I have learned with great interest that a campaign is to lie opened this month in New Zealand to raise the sum o! £S(I,(XX) for the endowment of a Chair of -Midwifery and Gynaecology in the [Adversity of Otago.
“I have for many years been deeply concerned in all matters affecting the welfare of mothers and children, and 1 recognise that it is by the advancement of professional and public knowledge that progress in the field can most effectively he made.
“It gives me special pleasure, therefore, to hear of the proposal to found a professional Chair in order to further, in the sphere of education, the efforts already being made in the Dominion for tho protection of motherhood, and the welfare of infancy, and to achieve a further saving of valuable lives. 1 ’
The Administrator sent the following reply to the Secretary of State for the Dominions:
“The gracious message from Her Majesty the Queen has been received, and communicated to the president of the Obstetrical Society in connection with the anneal for funds to endow a Chair of Midwifery in the Otago Universitv. behalf of those concerned I beg that an expression of respectami gratitude may be conveyed to Her Majesty.” The Minister of Health Hon. A. J. Stall worthy) expressed the gratification of the Government at the message received from Her Majesty, y , “This further evidence of the interest .which Her Majesty has for many years taken in all matters affecting the welfare of mothers and children cannot fail in its appeal to her loval New Zealand subjects,” the Minister stated.
