N.S.W. COAL TROUBLE
(Australian Press Association)
MELBOURNE, Feb. 27
A discussion was rcsuincd on Gm coalfields dispute at tlic Trades Un'rn C nference. H. Sutherland (organiser of the niinincr engine drivers association) severely criticised -L 8. Garden (secretary of the New South Wales Labour Council) whom he blamed for the prolongation of the dispute. Garden, lie said, is very good at giving advice from an office ciliap. There is already enough words spinning from miners leaders without Garden. What we would like to see is the colour of» his money. He had stepped down from the pulpit to a paid trade union job, and had made more compromises in industrial disputes than ail other organisations .put together. In fact lie was known as the compromise king. T. House (President a f the Northern Miners Federation) expressed the hope that the trade union movement would continue to be ot financial assistance to the coal miners, for if they were beaten, all other industries would have to suffer, reduced wages.
