' PRISONERS SENTENCED
(By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian) HAMILTON, February 27.
Harry Abraham Samuels, a tailor of Hamilton, previously convicted ot bookmaking, was sentenced to nine months hard labour, on a charge of bribing two detectives, by Justice Smith at Hamilton Supreme Court today. In passing sentence, His Honour said the offence went to the very root of the administration oi justice and lie hoped the sentence would have the desired deterrent effect.
Lionel Shotter Davies, 21, was admitted to three years probation on special terms, for attempted rape on a girl at Rotorua. An elderly man, Harry William Parton, to twelve months hard labour for assaulting a little girl at Rotorua. George Garner, to four months hard labour for unprovoked assault with an empty bottle on a barman at a Hamilton hotel. Garner appeared at the Magistrates Court yesterday, pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for senteiK'O. The evidence showed that the barman was in forcibly ejecting an intoxicated man was struck from behind by the accussed with an empty bottle. Accused said lie d'd not remember anything of the assault.
