A great vail of snow clouds barred the way and on pushing into thorn we found they were too thick to ily through. We were finally forced down towards the ice which was dangerous, since we might get high berg barriers. We continued southward for ten miles wdiero we believed we were beyond latitude 73 degree,s in
longitude 101 west. Our range oi vision was very limited, and then was no indication of land. Reluctantly we turned back seeking a way through a sort of wdiite cla.rkn.css. After twenty minutes difficult and dangerous flying to emerged Irom the sto’m clouds and flew low across trie ice to the See res by. The temperature dropped and the wind increased. No sooner had we landed on the water than 'breaking waves froze on the pontoons and the :ce piled up, but we managed to haul up the seaplane. A
succession of storms prevented a further take-off. Oil was running shorn so we decided to hurry back to Deception ’’
