HOKITIKA HIGH SCHOOL BOARD

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 26th

The Board met at 2.30 p.m. at the Town Hall. Present: Hon H. L. Michel (Chairman), Messrs T. W. Bruce, J. King, T. W. Duff, A. Clifton and J. A. Murdoch. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.

INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.

From. Mrs S. P. Evans, accepting terms of Board for lease of Government House buildings for tbe purpose of a hostel.—Received and accepted. From Westland County Council notifying re-election of Mr A. Clifton as representative on the Eoard.—Received.

From Audit Office, Wellington, in reference to inspection fee.—Received and attended to. From Mrs C. Linklater, resigning position as typewriter instructress of the District High .School.—Received and accepted with regret. From E. Partridge, Rector of High School, enclosing resignation of Mrs Linklater as commercial instructress, and recommending that Miss Elsie Robinson and Miss Helen Ridland be appointed part-time student assistants at a remuneration of 15 s per week each; that the Board’s Country Scholarships for 1930 be awarded to Jessie Gunn. Wataroa School, and Leonard Linklater, of Wuitivha School, —Received and approved. The Chairman expressed his regret at- the ' approaching departure of Mr Partridge, as Rector of the District High School. He moved that the Board place on record its extreme regret at the severance of the services o- Mr Partridge, who had shown outstanding ability in connection with his onerous duties. Mr Partridge had proved himself very solicitous of the welfare of the school, and line! moved very .strongly in his endeavours to secure every possible advantage that was available, including increased expenditure by tbe High School Board. —Seconded by Mr Duff, supported by members and carried.

Messrs Murdoch and Duff reported on the progress of repairs and renovations to Government House, which had been completed sufficiently to allow tbe buildings to be used at the beginning oi the month. So far the work done was highly pleasing and was giving every satisfaction. At present there were,B scholars in residence and there was room for several more. The fencing and other work authorised had yet to be completed.—Received as satisfactory. Mr Murdoch expressed pleasure that their Secretary (Mr A. B. King) was able to again take up his duties, and moved that a very hearty vote of thanks be passed to Mr Bruce who had been acting-secretary during his illness. Seconded my the Chairman and carried.
