SYDNEY NEWSPAPERS
(Australian Press Association)
SYDNEY, February. 25.
Sydney people have been interested in a little newspaper war in progress in the city. Associated newspapers I.td., which lately obtained control of a number of publications including Sun, News, Guardian, and Telegraph, desired to raise the price of daily journals from a penny to three half pence, and approached the “Morning Herald” to join in the uplift of the prices, but the “Herald” refused. An appeal was then made to news agentsj not to handle without the Associated Newspapers permission any daily publication selling at less then l-J- per' copy. Negotiations ended with a conference of news agents which adopted, a resolution unanimously, to handle all news papers at the prices at which they are published. The public is awaiting with interest the Associated Newspapers move and whether tliev will carry out the idea of raising the charges.
