EXPRESS TRAINS TO RUjn

Tn a statement made to-day, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Bailways, drew attention to the fact that Anzac Day, the 2oth. April, will this year fall on the Friday following Eastdr Monday. “This proximity,’’ said Mr Taverner, “makes the problem of dealing with the through passenger traffic on Anzac Day somewhat more difficult that it has been in previous years The Act provides that Anzac Day shall be treated as a Sunday. It is proposed, in order to conform with the spirit of the Act, to suspend the whole of the railway timetable wftli
the exception of the ordinary Sundav trains and the express trains between
Auckland and Wellington in the North Island, and between Christchurch and Dunedin and Invercargill, and between Christchurch and Grey mouth in the South Island. These expresses are the minimum requirements to provide the essential through services and connections to and from the inter-Tsland fern- steamers running on the day.”
