BRITISH FARMERS TOUR

AUCKLAND. February 25
Sixty British fanners arrived by the Remuera from Canada to-day. Arthur Caniiam (secretary of the British National Union) which organised the tour is in cahrge, He was formerly Trade Commissioner for South Africa in London. He said -the idea ol the tour originated after. Wembley Exhibition from a group of Imperialists. He bad impressed on the members ol tlie party on the way out that it was not a globe trotting tour, but one with serious 1m per’ial implications. He said we don’t propose to try ami teach Imperialism hut hope to catch some invigorating breeze.
JURYMAN MISSING
UNUSUAL POSITION AT ; HAMILTON. HAMILTON, Feb. 24. An unusual position arose in the bribery, case at Hamilton to-day. When tlie officers in'charge of the jury lined them -up -to -take ■ them- for lunch they discovered HmtNooly [elevens wei'e'fp'rek sent, one having-gone home. On the resumption the position was explained to the-Judge, who thought in the circumstances that the jury should he dismissed.
The Crown Solicitor pointed out that if the present jury recorded a conviction this would he invalid.
On prisoner’s counsel and counsel for the other side intimating that they had no objection to the present jury hearing the case, and on the juryman in question declaring on oath That liehad not spoken to anybody hut his wife, the case was allowed to proceed. FALL PROVES FATAL. AUCKLAND. February 25.

RAILWAY MAN .LOSES LEG
DUNEDIN, February 2.5,
W. J. Douglas, single, twenty-iib” years of age. was admitted to the hospital this morning with a severely lacerated leg, which lias since been''amputated. Th<> injured man is employed at Hillside Workshops, where lie was run over by a crane.
BAND CONTEST
DUNEDIN, Feb. 25.
The E. Flat tenor horn solo was the only item in the hand contest th|s morning and tlie placings were:—TV. Smith (St. Kilda) 99, H. Parsonage (Wbodston) 97, A. Clvatterton (St. Kilda) 91. The judge described ’the winner’s as a wonderful performance.
PUBLIC SERVICE LIST
WELLINGTON, February 25
The Public Service classification list incorporating the results of the quinquennial regarding of the Service, lias been issued. There is very little alteration in the salary scales.
