JURYMAN MISSING

UNUSUAL POSITION AT ; HAMILTON. HAMILTON, Feb. 24. An unusual position arose in the bribery, case at Hamilton to-day. When tlie officers in'charge of the jury lined them -up -to -take ■ them- for lunch they discovered HmtNooly [elevens wei'e'fp'rek sent, one having-gone home. On the resumption the position was explained to the-Judge, who thought in the circumstances that the jury should he dismissed.

The Crown Solicitor pointed out that if the present jury recorded a conviction this would he invalid.

On prisoner’s counsel and counsel for the other side intimating that they had no objection to the present jury hearing the case, and on the juryman in question declaring on oath That liehad not spoken to anybody hut his wife, the case was allowed to proceed. The E. Flat tenor horn solo was the only item in the hand contest th|s morning and tlie placings were:—TV. Smith (St. Kilda) 99, H. Parsonage (Wbodston) 97, A. Clvatterton (St. Kilda) 91. The judge described ’the winner’s as a wonderful performance.
