Russian members of the Orthodox Church are amazingly placid under Soviet anti-ieiigious war, though there have been some violent reactions, in scattered villages. Although thousands of churches were closed at -Christmastide, fifty thousand still remain, with thirty thousand priests officiating. The excitement in the outside world has merely stimulated press comment, that the indignation is a pretext to cover the anti-Soviet campaign.

AUSTRALIAN TRADE TREATY

(Received this day at 1.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, February 25. A. W. Neill, Independent member for British Columbia, in the House of Commons gave a notice to-day of his intention to move a resolution calling for a six months notice, to be given New Zealand of the cancellation of application to that country of the Australian Trade Treaty.

CANADIAN DIVORCE LAW. OTTAWA, Feh. 25. The abolition of authority of the Senate to decide divorce cases was proposed in the Commons hv Henri Bourassa (Independent Member for Quebec) who declared tire granting of divorces was “an abnormal function.” When this was done, judicial officials could state what alternative could be adopted by means of the courts. At present a majority of divorces are granted through the Senate, with a large mini her of Roman Catholic members, who arc opposed to divorce, refusing to vote.
