(Received this day at 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, l-eli. 25
Chicago advice states an incident of lawlessness even unprecedented for Chicago occurred to-day when three enemies of a local “Beer Baron” burst into the ward of the German Deaconess Hospital, where the latter was lying with a. broken leg and fought a- pistol battle with him. j Twenty-seven shots were'exchanged, and three bullets entered the “beer baron’s” body, but propped on his elbow lie continued to empty his revolver at the marauders, who had climbed up the fire escape and disappeared in the l same way. The duel threw the hospital, which is a. large institution, into a panic, patients screaming. Many who had been bedridden 'for weeks leaped out of their cots qnd ran into the corridors until they fell with' weakness. The “beer baron’’ escaped with his life and it is believed his assailants were uninjured.
