SWIMMING CARNIVAL
LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS
Although, a line clear evening the wind from the south was nippy and affected the: attendance at the Carnival organised in conneection with the special visit of Misses P. Robertson and M. Farquhar, lady champions of Auckland, wno are on a coaching tour lor tiie benefit of the school children of the district. There weio about 301) present, and an interesting programme was put through smartly. All the events were well '>• contested , and provo.ved outbursts of enthusiasm. This was specially the case .in the* final distance of the Newman Cup when a , capital race resulted. The visiting ladies were in good form, and competed successfully in different events, their appearance being greeted with applause. The meeting was weil conducted. The various officials were,, attentive to their duties, and always prompt. The handicapping was .very good, several. line finishes resulting. 'I he Municipal Band, as usual, paraded, and rendered a spirited programme previous to the sports. The results recorded were:—
