A most enjoyable tennis afternoon was spent on Saturday 22nd. Feb. when the Hokitika B. team travelled to Kokatahi and played a match against fhe Kokatahi team.
Kokatahi proved to be victorious by 15 sets to 9, after very close and interesting games. The following are the results, Hokitika players being mentioned first. GENTS’ SINGLES. The most startling tennis seen in Auckland since the Davis Cup wit. played here in 1920, was provided by the play in the contest between tire visiting Australian team and Auckland provincial teams of eight players yesterday. F. E. Kalms was iby far the most outstanding, and he played tennis of a quality rarely' seen in this country. After two days’ play, the Australians won by.eight, matches to feyr,. the Itqno.urs in the singles None of the doubles were won byAuckland. Results:— F. E. Kalms (Australia) beat E. L. Australia won eight matches to four. Tho visitors won 27 sets, and the Auckland team 15. WELLINGTON BEAT CANTERBURY WELLINGTON, February 23. The Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield challenge match, Canterbury (challengers) against Wellington (holders) was concluded on the Wellington Association courts at Miramar in fine weather. Wellington, with a lend of four rubbers to two on the first day, easily retained their hold on the Shield by winning the six rubbers played, after a ibad start. An outstanding feature was D. G. France’s brilliant win over C. Angus. Following are the results, with the Wellington players mentioned first; — Singles: D. G. France heat C. Angas 3—6, 6—o, 6—3; C. E. Malfroy beat T.
