RUGBY FOOTBALL

BRITISH TEAM’S TOUR

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association-)

WELLINGTON, Feb. 19

Matters in connection with the British team’s visit to the Dominion this year were discussed .by the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night. On the motion of Mr Dean, it was decided that permission will not be given to broadcast a report of any match played by the British team on a Saturday during the New Zealand tour, as such broadcasts would he likely to upset the interest in the club matches on Saturdays.

The South Canterbury Union forwarded the following remit for consideration at the annual meeting of delegates: “That it be a recommendation to the Management Committee that for future occasions, a flat rate lie laid down for the use of all grounds required by the New Zealand Union, instead of the present method of asking each Union what percentage of the gate it would accept for the use of its ground.” The Victorian Union wrote asking if the New Zealand Union would o-uarantee them against loss on their match, against the British team at Melbourne on September 13th. 1 hey also asked if, in the event, of the British team's tour proving a financial success to the New Zealand Union the New Zealand Union would be prepared to refund 50 per cent, of the 60 per cent the Victorian Union was to be charged with. It would also be a great incentive, they stated, if, the New Zealand Union could see its way to donate a shield f°>‘ com_ petition. Mr Dean said lie could not see that there was much, to ho gained by attempting to further foster the, game in Victoria. It was decided to inform tne vie-, torian Union that the New Zealand; Union could only deal with the -Newj South Wales Union in connection with! the British team’s tour of Australia.’ It was also decided to reply that the New Zealand Union could npt sec its way to donate a shield for competition amongst the Rugby clubs in Victoria.
