THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
THE, HOMELY ENGLISH. ‘■'Hi© last United States census shows tnat 75 people out of every 1(X) in the urban parts of the United States are homeless,” remarked Mr Mill Appleton, to a Wellington Post reporter. l 'i mean by this, that they live in
small apartments, hotels, and rooms; take their meals at restaurants, lunch counters and hotels. This is a great contrast to what I found in England, Ira nee and Germany, where people nave homes as they did of ojd. As a matter of fact, I was amazed in England to discover the thousands of homes tnat are now being erected in all parts or the country. In my opinion, England to-day is being rebuilt, and much the same applies to Germany; and what was more noticeable to me was that all of the new homes have bathrooms.”
