WELLINGTON, Feb. 17

Something like a crisis has developed in the New Zealand wool market. There appears to be a strong probability of a serious hiatus in the wool selling programme of 'the current season. it is jxissible that ■ the‘Wellington sale, the fourth of the season fixed for next Thursday and the fourth Napier sale set down for February 25th may not take place.

Overseas wool buyers acting on instructions from their principals, have announced that' they will not attend any sales unless twenty thousand bales or more are offered at each centre.- Owing to withdrawals by growers, considerably less than this quantity will be available, at either Wellington or Napier.

DROWNING IN SOUTHLAND

INVERCARGILL, Feb. 17. Since' the disappearance on February Bth, of John Harold McLeay, aged 22, about 16 mile’s up the Waiau River from Tuatapere, an active search lias been carried out; He was last > seen that evening between seven and eight o’clock, crossing the river by means of a bosun’s chair, which is suspended from;, a steel-wire.
