DUNEDIN TOWN HALL
NEW ORGAN AND CHAMBER. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, Feb. 16. The main chamber or Dunedin’s new Town Hall, which has seating accommodation for 3000 people, was filled to overflowing on Saturday night on the occasion of the official opening by the Mayor, Mr R. S. Black. It was a double event, inasmuch as Dr. W. G. Price, of Melbourne, took his seat at the console of the great gift organ for the first time officially. The function took the form of a concert by massed choirs, under the baton of Dr V. E. Galway, and splo work by Dr Price on the organ. The meeting accorded musical honours to iMr and Mrs A. S Paterson for their £17,000 gift of the organ, after Mr H. h. Tap ley, had proposed a vote of thanks. Mi AA . Taverner, Minister of, Railways, represented the Government, and eonveyed the Cabinet’s hearty congratulations.. The capacity of the great hall was again taxed to the utmost this afternoon, when divine service was held under the auspices of the Council of Christian Congregations.
