A deputation from the Federal and State Labour organisations asked the Federal Attorney-General (Mr Brennan) to amend the Commonwealth Bank Act, to enable the Bank to enter more actively into competition with other banks, to permit more liberal ■support to primary industries and the development of reproductive works.
Mr Brennan indicated tha the Government was in agreement with the request. The matter would come before the Cabinet.
SKIMOUS EXPORT DECLINE. CANBERRA, Feb. 11. Commonwealth 'trade figures for the six months reveal a tremendous decrease in the value of exports, increase in imports, and a heavier adverse trade balance by twenty-five millions than in 1928. The total value of imports exceeded exports by more than sixteen millions. The real adverse trade balance was much greater than this, because exports included bullion and specie valued at nine and a half millions, I
