’ The biggest conspiracy in the history of the prohibition movement was uncovered by prohibition agents. According to a Chicago newspaper more than one hundred and fifty persons were involved in a syndicate operating all over the country, which flooded the United States with spurious liquor, and the most astounding of all the Federal Government supplied every drop of this liquor. ' Agents traced four million gallons of industrial alcohol was diverted into the bootleg trade. The basis of operations was the discovery, by a former Bulgarian chemist of the formula for extracting essential oils from hair tonics for perfumery and kindred products: Ibis chemist’s sudden rise to wealth provided the key to the solution of the mystery, why so many new perfume companies wore being established.
