Th*e Countv authorities compile the defaulters’ list for the Central Riding in a week’s time. A painful accident befel Mr F. W. Rozel, of Alexander Street, Greymouth about ton o’clock yesterday morning. He was engaged on the wharf in hauling trucks of timber to tlie Kamona, when his right hand caught between the rope and the revolving capstan, resulting iir four fingers being severely crushed, and the skin badly torn, but fortunately no bones were broken. Tt was found necessary to cut the rope in order to release Mr Rowel’s hand.

A coming event which is hound to be very popular is .no Arahura Tennis Club’s Ball to be held in Token’s Hal) on Wednesday. News was received tins morning of the sudden death of Mrs Stewart, wife of <Mr Sam Stewart, the well known storekeeper of Goldisboroutgh, which took place about 9 o’clock this morning. Deceased had a seizure this morning, about 6 o’clock and passed away as stated. She was a
native of South Westland, a member of the Gibbons 'family of Kumara, and over 60 years of age. A husband is left, but there is no family. Many friends throughout the district will hear the news with regret and extend ftheir sympathy to the bereaved husband, who also is In very poor health.
