A CANADIAN VISITOR.
vßy Telegraph—Press Association)
WELLINGTON, February 6
For the purpose of investigating on the spot, the possibilities in regard to an improved shipping service between Canada and New Zealand, and for ex- 1 tending the already growing trade be-! tween the two Dominions, Mr It. B. Teakle, general manager of the! Canadian National Steamships, and also representing the Canadian Na-j tional Railways arrived in New Zealand ten days ago, and has been through the North Island from Auckland, taking en route all principal resorts and industries. j Mr Teakle’s company’s boat proceeds monthly by way of the Panama Canal to Easterh Canada, and works in the closest co-operation with the Canadian National Railways.
While I do not wish to discuss publicly, questions of reciprocal trade between our two countries,l will say that our boats never return to Halifax or Montreal empty. There is a market in Canada for your New Zealand products, and I believe there is also a very fine market here for Canadian goods.” It was naturally in the interests of the company, he also said, to encourage the tourist traffic from England to New Zealand, through Canada.
