He doclared that any restoration of conservative or effon of moderate men and systems was impossible. This, he said, was because the country was heart and soul intent on a radical work of restoring to the race its heritage. He said that the Government would he “entirely revolutionary.’

YOUTH FIRES SIX SHOTS.
MEXICO CITY, Feb. 5
The Mexican authorities believe that the attempt on the life of Rubio is a part of a widespread plot. On orders given from the Department of the Interior, seven additional persons have been arrested. Their identity iis not revealed. Rubio was not seriously injured and the slug has been removed from his left jaw. The President’s wife, and niece, a military aide and a bystander were grazed by other bullets, when a youth, who presumably is partisan of Senior Vasconcellos, clothed in black, fired six shots into Rubio’s automobile before tho National Palace. The would be assassin stubbornly refused to talk. He was placed under a heavy guard. Accomplices of the assassin, one of whom was a womon, attempted to escape a cycle policeman, who caught the youth. The youth wore a catholic insignia in order to escape detection.
An indescribable impression of regret is visible everywhere among citizens, who earlier in the day were in the best of humour at tho peaceful orderly manner in which Rubio assumed office.
Representatives of all the political factions expressed disgust at the coldblooded attempt at murder.
, Seven persons have been arrested on suspicion of a conspiracy to assassinate.

The police arq now watching closely for further trouble, the exact seriousness of which they are unable to ascertain as yet.
