On the recommendation of the Hon. H. Atmore, Cabinet has approved of the necessary grant to enable Dr Miller, of the Cawthron Institute, Nelson, to visit various countries for the purpose of securing insects of economic value in the biological control of noxious weeds, etc. It is hoped that Dr Miller’s visit to Chili will result in a parasite coming to New Zealand which will work effectively on the bidi-bidi which during the autumn causes such trouble with wool fleeces. The question oi importing a parasite for cattle tick is also to be considered by Dr Miller. On his visit other matters of interest to New Zealand will be carefully considered.

A Press Association message states that Captain A. T. Forsythe, of the American steamer West Loquassock, died at New Plymouth yesterday morning, from heart failure. He was a single man, aged 42. The vessel called at New Plymouth on Friday en route for Sydney and New York, owing to the captain’s illness.
