A return of the estimated population of New Zealand, its dependencies a*d the mandated territory is published in the Gazette to-night. It shows the totals as': Males 789,382; females, 755,748; total 1,545,130. The estimated population of Nfew Zealand proper at the 31st December, 1929 (including Maoris) was 723,693 males, and 695,239 females. The estimated Maori population was 34,809 males and 31,853 females.

v The population of the North Island estimated at 952,584, including 63/733 Maoris; and that of the South Island sis 533,010, including 22,929 Mhoris.

The estimated population of the €fcobk Islaiid' Niue, etc., 14,451; Tokelau Isjatids, 999; Western Samoa, 44,086.
