By far the, best and most entertaijjing Universal has turned ,out in soipe,, time (a “Smilin’ Guns,” starring Hoot Gibson, which -opens tonight iit the Princess Theatre: It present*! thq.' popular and versatile star in a new and entirely pleasing While the energetic Hoot has infected a certain amount of comedy in ' previous pictures, the dominant nothin Gibson’s Westerns has been Hood’s daredevil riding and deathdefying feats. But in “Smilin’ Guns” Hoot gives his addihnce, along with the usual amount of, good riding and thrills, some of the best comedy anyone could desire. Portraying a devil-may-care but rather unkept cow-boy, affords many laughs by his inimitable performance. But it is not until he decides to become a polished gentleman that flie real laughs cow* merice. There are spots in “Smilin Gi/hs” during which Hoot rises to veritable heights as a comedian. Blanche, Mehaffey, beautiful and talented young Irish colleen, heads an supporting cast which incudes Virginia Pearson, Leo White Robert Graves, Water Brennan, Jack W T i'se, James Bradbury, Jr., and Dad Gibson.
